poem for the table

we are here with each other
and trying, asking at least
i see the people around this table
love each other and want better
for each other in a way i thought
once was impossible - and we may
disagree on this or that but we are
moving toward unity, i see that now. 
i hope we will be able to make more
difficult decisions and stronger stands
to make the monster stop all demands
but what am i willing to give up? 
what sense of security is bankrupt?
integration dreams often fall apart 
when the thing begins to grind you down
when the thing begins to grind you down 
we need a way to liven us up and keep our spirits and bodies intact. so that the reactionary forces will never annihilate us.
