The Hollowed Vocabulary: Jewish Voice for Peace and the Institutional Capture of Anti-Zionism

All of a sudden we were navigating a new organizing terrain where everyone became self-avowed anti-zionists almost overnight. The act of people calling themselves anti-zionists was completely decoupled from political implications and became a rhetorical move similar to how people will declare that they aren’t racist, without ever really considering what racism is, how it functions, or what it actually entails to be anti-racist. Just as claiming to be anti-racist in the United States indicates alignment with certain political commitments — reparations, an end to mass incarceration, material accountability for those who have upheld and/or benefitted from white supremacy — being anti-zionist demands more than vibes.
