On 29 March 1985, two brothers, Rafael and Eduardo Vergara Toledo, were murdered by police in Santiago, Chile. Rafael, 18 and Eduardo, 20, were members of the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR), which was engaged in a guerrilla struggle against the right-wing dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
