In a statement published on Thursday 23 October 2025 – and today endorsed by Trinidad and Tobago’s previous Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley – a distinguished group of former leaders have joined the growing campaign throughout the Caribbean, as well as close neighbours in south America, united in opposition to US military aggression in the Caribbean. It’s clear that the majority of people oppose the violent, extra judicial killings perpetrated by the USA’s military recently, and also the threatening increase in military hardware amassed for the anticipated invasion of Venezuela. As well as the Assembly of Caribbean Peoples call for collective action to defend the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace marked with a Day of Action on 16 October the past few weeks have seen many forms of opposition in a host of Caribbean countries, with prominent activists and social movements participating. The sentiment is to refute the explanations of the US and its leaders about drug cartels, and to recognise the threat to peace the belligerent neighbour poses in the region, to demand the region be recognised as a Zone of Peace, with anti war governments embodying the aspiration.
