Help Musa Pay Legal Fees + Get a New Laptop | Chuffed | Non-profit charity and social enterprise fundraising

I’m asking for your financial support following political repression. On April 8, 2025, I was detained and interrogated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the Tampa airport after returning from a (fully legal) trip to Cuba. I am a U.S. citizen, but that didn’t stop federal Customs agents from telling me that “most of your rights are suspended” at the airport because it is “a border crossing.” For nearly four hours, I was denied access to a lawyer, aggressively interrogated, subjected to an invasive pat-down and groin search, and had my phone and laptop seized without justification.

The real reason? I was targeted for my political beliefs and activism. I had supported a friend targeted by the Trump administration through their legal self-deportation. In retaliation, CBP questioned me about political activity in Cuba, asked if I had received military training in Cuba or the Middle East, and tried to get information on others involved in Palestine solidarity work. I refused to give up any passwords or information once my devices were seized. They made it clear that being Black, Muslim, and politically engaged was enough to criminalize me.
