The pretense that The New York Times is in any way separated from the centers of power is ludicrous. It simply reports mechanically whatever Admiral Kirby or [White House Press Secretary] Karine Jean-Pierre, or the other spokespersons for the state want reported. That is the story. There’s no criticism. There’s no context. There’s no pushback. It is a mouthpiece for the state in a way that is similar to Pravda but with the difference that with Pravda there was no pretense.
